Getting by
Once upon a time.
Beyond any nursery rhyme.
I dreamed I would stand tall.
Heard the call.
Started my journey into the unknown.
Thought I was a man grown.
Soon I learned.
Respect was something you earned.
Living the dream.
Wasn't as easy as it would seem.
Used to talk to my guitar.
Hoping it would lead me to my own star.
I didn't figure I'd get that far.
Never liked the crowd.
So loud.
I slipped away without a sound.
I didn't want to be found.
Times I spent lost in my own mind.
Left behind.
Thinking I would never again see the light.
Gave up the fight.
Sat in the dark.
Life, I placed in park.
Got myself lost writing my rhymes.
About gave up many times.
Chose my writing.
To do my fighting.
The wrongs I thought I was righting.
Nothing was as bad as it seemed.
May not have turned out as I had dreamed.
But I survived.
My soul revived.
Memories to get me by
A tear I may cry.
I still wish to fly.
Acceptance of what life has shown.
It is a part of you that's grown.
From here to there.
In your heart always care.
The path is long.
So many things to go wrong.
Let compassion be your guide.
Some days you may slide.
But love, you should never hide.
Be the light.
Help others through the fight.
A guidepost pointing the way.
Toward a better day.
