Gethsemane

He kneeled down on a cold stone ledge
Not caring about its rough edge
Looked up at the darkening sky
Already revealing stars sparkling bright
But his eyes were not fixed on the stars.

Filled with tears, his vision was blurry
About his own life, he had no worry
He was not weak, but agony filled his heart
He knew the end was coming fast
By his own people he had been seen as an outcast.

He wondered what he could have done different
There was still so much to say, some much to be done
Was there anyway he could change what was coming?
He rose to find his three disciples, found them sleeping
After three times, it was obvious they could not stand guard.

No one but Him understood the severity of the moment
He offered his heart and soul in complete surrender
To His beloved Father without a trace of anger
For no one knew suffering more than the Father
But he also could see that his rejection the future would alter.

He could see the path his followers would have to trod
Exactly the same path he now had to walk
He could see the future for his people and cried
The soldiers came, his apostle's reaction was now futile
There was only one way left to walk, it was now his path.
