George the Vi
My first is one of royalty...
George is the name of a king,
but no one bows to kiss my ring
for I don't have that legitimacy.
I am the sixth in the family name,
although my true lineage is unknown;
I was adopted, and true love was sown
by a man and his wife wanting no fame.
I was given my adopted dad's name,
and started learning his ways of life;
growing up wasn't without its strife,
but dear ol' dad said he was the same.
He was a cabinet maker by trade,
but my life has taken a different turn;
he told me to follow my heart and learn,
and never but never be afraid.
The first name lineage does now end
for I am the father to a beautiful girl;
I try to be an oyster protecting its pearl...
a teacher, a comforter, and a friend.
For a name that wasn't mine from the start,
I don't think it turned out too damn bad;
I could have been a Bruce, a Sam, or a Thad
but George came directly from the heart.
Dedicated to my parents.
