Gently Now, Gently

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stay here love, stay here...
lay beside me on the bed
Hold my weary body near,
fold your arm beneath my head
Guide me now, guide me...
as the evening takes the light
Hide my eyes that I won't see
what awaits me in the night
Sing to me... please sing
one more trembling tenor song
so I cannot hear a thing
but the voice I've loved so long
Hear me now, hear me...
you must know, my cherished wife
though I pay this debt to Death,
it's to you I owe this life
Gently now, gently...
as my breath begins to slow,
whisper of your love for me
one last time... then let me go
Gentle, worthwhile and demanding words. You led the reader to honest ending dear Lycia. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.
In its sorrow lies the beauty of its intention. Wonderfully written, Lycia.
