Gender based violence
Gender-based violence, why all the silence?
We walk the walk; we talk the talk.
With all the violence
there is only silence.
Women cry at night,
feeling they have no right.
Rape every hour
leaves them sour.
Beatings, rape, and murder,
there is no way to take it further.
Men treat women like scum,
while they are numb.
Girls are raped at a young age
like animals in a cage.
That is life on the Cape Flats,
where some people live like rats.
Paying a medical bill
Is a battle that’s uphill
Living off the government,
they don’t earn a cent.
Every day they must find a way.
Without income, it’s a difficult day.
They steal and plunder,
they would steal your thunder.
Gender-based violence.
These gangs you won’t silence.
They live in violence
and die in silence.
