Gaia Sighs

As the temperature begins to rise
As the temperature begins to rise
changing weather patterns mean more storming
humans are doing little; Gaia sighs.

Coal still burns in power stations, likewise;
the car industry is nonconforming
as the temperature begins to rise.

Huge, wealthy corporations aggrandize
consumers; it's all about performing.
Humans are doing little; Gaia sighs.

So hard to get the world to empathize
when many are simply misinforming
as the temperature begins to rise.

Though just a few can see the world's demise
there still is, too sadly, global warming,
humans are doing little; Gaia sighs.

You'll miss the flowers, birds, and butterflies,
shade of trees, the touch of grass, bees swarming
as the temperature begins to rise.
Humans are doing little; Gaia sighs.

Very thought-provoking poem, Terry, and, of course, I always enjoy a good villanelle. I appreciate what you have to say very much.

Thank you, Milton; the subject seemed to fit the villanelle.
