I was only four,
running out the kitchen door.
There she was -
a ball of pep -
first sight love, and yep,
her fur like fuzz.
In circles she would run,
for us brothers, fun -
four legs of joy.
We played tug of war,
and whatever more
is needed for a boy?
She was my best friend
until it had to end
in ten years time.
She made childhood sweeter,
my rhythm and my meter,
she was my rhyme.
