Future Self

Dear Future Self,

I know I have had my ups and downs.
I’ve broken in half, I’ve lost my crown.
I tried to be more than myself
I let them take over by being themselves.
The people I wish to never become.

The future is not written.
It is out there for the taking.
For a new soul to overcome
And form a new kingdom.
A place where everyone can start over.
Never having to run for cover.

Ever again.

I look out the window now
And see people who bow
To people who are not greater than we are.

Celebrities, actors, the rich, the powerful.
But most ignore the real kings and queens.
Strong, passionate, confident, beautiful.
No more letting silly things define us like genes.
Anyone can be great,
If they truly want it.

Future self, don’t let the “greats” win
Make a difference, live in your own skin.
Don’t worry about me,
I’ll be fine, just leave me be.

Sincerely, Present self
