Future is Today

The future depends on what you do today — Mahatma Gandhi ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The future’s the mirror that today displays— A sly cloud occluding the boundless sky; Where past dreams drift through as a sweet song plays, In warmest affection where old echoes lie. As fresh flowers bloom in clement weather, So is the future soaked in today’s own sweat, Else, borne by the wind, they fall like feathers— And if it snaps, it’s today’s own regret. Our hereafter is steeped in the present— Either in brine or cool-air’s caress, Yet still it bends toward a light so pleasant, For bright sunlight clears its silent distress. Tomorrow is no stranger in disguise; It’s the seed of now, carefully watered By the few whose vision makes them wise— For joy to be raised, or left to be slaughtered.
