Futility

I made a melody that in their ears did ring
And they said, all you can do is sing.
I penned a verse full of darkness and light
And they said, all you can do is write.
I moved to a tune in a breathless trance
And they said, all you can do is dance.
I put on a mask, blended fancy and fact
And they said, all you can do is act.
I daubed all my hues, without constraint
And they said, all you can do is paint.
I showed them, gave them all I had to give
And they said, all you can do
Is live.
