Furrows and Lines
Furrows and Lines.
Beneath the furrows and the telling lines
Accumulated through age
Wear and living
Through the cruel passing of time
Lies beauty hidden from view
And eye
The sallow skin
Is just a mask and an irrespective lie
Although old and tired
Still very young at heart
Body failing
And falling apart
She goes about her day the best she can
Family faraway to visit too busy to call
Husband long gone
And such a gentle man
All she has is her fragmented memories
Faded photographs
Of her and her husband
So young
When used to dance and laugh
Such a warm kind hearted Lady
Trapped in a cold world
She no longer understands
For once she was young and beautiful
And had the whole world in her hands
Although she may be old
Her eyes still sparkle and shine
As the cheeky little girl she was
Long ago in another time
A mere mention of her childhood
And memories flood back
Her heart smiles
And you see it in her twinkly eyes
She’s a young girl once more
Just like before
It doesn't always take much
Io make someone else's day
With a simple smile to a stranger
Or a few words of kindness
To say
Spread your love to others
No matter who they be
For one day
That old person
Will be you or me.
