Fruits of Victory

They face each other
hovering in mid-air
they rise in unison
long, slender beaks
as swords clashing,
locked in battle
they turn and piroette
tiny ballerinas
on a musical pedistal
green feathers flashing
emeralds in the sun
fighting for the rights
to the feeder.
tiny wings hum
as one darts away in defeat
andflees the protected area
The victor swoops down,
tail flaired, head high,
ruby throat puffed in pride
as he hovers in front of the
coveted feeder for an instant
before sampling the
fruits of his victory

Oh how this makes me miss our bird feeder and watching all the gorgeous birds. Since many years back when we adopted a stray cat who lives in our shed, we just couldn't bear to see those precious birds caught off guard and well, you know. Your love of these beautiful creatures is so evident and well captured. Love, Shar
