Fruit Flies Of Spring And Summer

This morning I killed six drosophila melanogaster, just saying.
So thankful another one did not fly up my nose.

Sara, hard to believe they can tolerate the acidity of a lime. We've found that all food has to be removed to get rid of them. It only takes a couple of weeks as we're fortunate their life cycle is short. They have huge chromosomes, which made them ideal for biological studies years ago. When we had a neighbor who was making wine and crushing grapes, it was particularly difficult since they kept visiting.

I would think that those fruit flies would love the rotting grapes used to make wine. LOL..I wonder if there were some in the wine. Thanks for the visit and sharing the information with me. Sara K

haha. Funny last line. My problem is always with gnats. They drive me crazy in summer. You leave just one slice of melon on the counter, and they show up!!

If they are coming to fruit, it is actually fruit flies and not gnats. I have had two to fly up my nose this spring. It was horrible. I thought I was going to have to go to the doctor from one of them. I could not get it out of my nose, and I was getting sick but eventually it was blown out. Thanks for the visit. Sara K

Victor, I have them under more control. I will spray with flying insect spray if I have to because I can't stand those little bugs. Sara K

It's time for all kinds of flyers and insects, Sara. And this year I feel like they started a little early. Wish you good luck with those embarrassing creatures

These little pests are called by some by the name of gnats, but they are not gnats. They seemed to have appeared earlier and are more prolific than in years past. Thanks for the visit and nice comment. Sara K
