Fruit Cakes

The hapless fruit cake has endured egregious loathin' o'er the years! Bein' on the receivin' end of such a delicacy is some folks' greatest fears! Shucks! I received many a one while in the service to share with my chums, (Who savored booze in any form, especially those cakes soaked in rums!) History reveals that fruit cakes were consumed by Roman Legionnaries, To sustain them in their numerous conflicts with ferocious adversaries! Fruit cake with nuts and fruits (Lord only knows what else) I won't condemn! I'm just one of many discriminatin' fellers who happens to like 'em!

You sure know your fruit cake rum history. Mine were always given away.))) But, glad you like them. I like that gaming Greek dish, drowning in Ouzo. Good one, Bob. Will send one to you, if I get one, Pangie

Ha, ha! 150 years old? I think that it's a close contest between fruit cakes and Rodney Dangerfield as to 'Who Don't Get No Respect!' Hard to tell who's fruitier there, eh?! Merry Xmas!

Thanks, Gershon! You are so right - those things last forever. My research revealed a family inherited one that was 150 years old & still edible. Here in Co Springs after Christmas they have a contest using catapults to see who can fling a cake the furtherest! Fruit cakes don't get any respect!! Hunker down for the storm heading your way - Bob H
