Friends Forever
Friends forever, since childhood to adults
I was new and shy entering a school hoping to survive
just wanting to quietly get by
And out of the blue you walked up to me
shook my hand and smiled hugely
I'm Carl and you are, Fritz I mumbled
Carl answered, so glad to meet you
He grabbed my hand and pulled me along
introducing me to classmates so I would belong
Cheery, playful funny and fun
a bit of a brat yet lovable to everyone
Carl and I connected that day
and we became buddies right away
A confident a brother a pal
we were thick as thieves living loud
Carl was short and I am tall
At the senior play Carl the ventriloquist and me the big doll
we slayed em as laughter echo through the halls
In college we dated those pretty twins
we would always get them mixed up or was it pretend
At our weddings each the other's best man
Our families shared vacations and a holiday now and then
I remember Carl's words to me so long ago
Fritz, no matter what paths we take
no matter what directions we go
I pray that we remain friends throughout our lives
that we live as friends die as friends
and whatever comes after that
we stay friends forever
all I could do was mumble and smile
I wouldn't have it any other way pal
