They say we cannot be friends if we cannot be lovers
But I say we have to be friends to be lovers
They say friendship will never last
I say friendship with love can always be a blast
They say just give me one night to love you
I say give me an eternity and I will show you what love is
They say sex is made for an one night stand
but I say love making is made for two who started as friends.
So to be lovers let's start being friends
Understanding the real meaning
and not just trying to get in each other pants
Because at the end of the night
I want to hold you tight
listen to all your fears
and make you understand that I am all ears
I am here until the end
Not just the night
Until the end of time
Because I want to do this right
I mean, we can go at it
and have fun for the rest of the night
But what is the real meaning
if it is only for one night
I want to make this last forever
and I am not Keith Sweat,
But I am willing to make this bet
That if we become friends before lover
every challenge that comes before us
has no chance to destroy us
But this is only meant in the sense of Holy Matrimony
So, do not get me wrong I will love to stay for the night
but it really would not be right
Because I want to take a knee
and ask you to be my wife
So let's continue to be friend,
So that we can grow to be lovers
That is all I am saying
Friends before lovers
