Friends and Friendship

FRIENDS AND FRIENDSHIP We have a friend in Jesus, that’s something we should know, And when we’re needing someone, to Him then we can go. But we can’t see this person, this friend so true and kind, So sometimes we need others, a friend indeed to find. I’ve had some in my lifetime who led me so astray, And things that I did with them I’m ashamed of now today. But others have been blessings as friendship with them grows, And God has sent them to me, there is no doubt, I know. You are one special friend there I’ve known since you were young, And I have watched your progress and know some things you’ve done. Like me, there are those friendships you wish you never had And years of wasted living when things you did were bad. But in those years of struggles and straying from the way, I did not cease to love you, I did not cease to pray. That is just like our Saviour when we grieve Him in sin; He stays a friend so precious waiting to take us in. So as I thought about you and what our friendship means, I thought about the Saviour; from Him these truths I glean. I thank God for our friendship and how it’s grown to be So much like our dear Saviour’s friendship is to you and me. I pray as time allows us true friends we’ll always be, And living for our Saviour who died to set us free.
