Friend
I heard him say to me,
Thanks.
For what????, I asked.
With a thunderous sigh,
lightinin' gasp.
He said let me finish, man!
'til I finish, man,
just, If you can....
listen.
I stared at his light filled eyes,
and to my surprise,
as began to explain.....
Reminiscing of our younger days.
He seem to be on a journey
with each word he spoke,
sound, laughing,
recalling
from his throat
one of my old jokes.
He went on and on,
about our missions
some just endured,
some incomplete,
Telling me he was proud
to be there with me.
Then out of the blue,
he burst into tears,
I jumped, as he yelled
I could only tell
the state of mind,
he was travelling.
He said there were times,
I felt down, lost without a clue,
yet I could always depend,
on you, to see me through.
He said FRIEND, THANK YOU!!!
As I stood there hanging on every word,
I became overwhelmed,
emotional.
I said to him,
Man "you are my brotha',
my strength and my truth.
I would be half the man, half a friend,
If it wasn't for you.
So I just take some time,
each day or two
to acknowledge those among us,
we call TRUE FRIENDS
giving them their just due.
