Friday Nights, College Days
blues and spirits downtown
away from campus
books closed until Sunday
another chapter of my life
I played
instructors and professors
couldn’t see me
mingling with townsfolks
and flirting with waitresses
the music
book learning taken to heart
psychology and sociology
but in time I discovered
life’s lessons off-campus
became a part of me
alone in a dim apartment
with headphones on
I listened to ballads
and closed my eyes
