I was trying to protect you
the one thing I want to do
I guess it isn't what it's cracked up to be
I hope some day you will see
how much you mean to me
and that I was only trying to be
perfect for someone like you
doing what I could do
to keep you safe
and now you've lost faith
in the one you love
so now I pray to God above
for an answer to the task
of taking off the mask
that I am wearing
to lift the weight i have been bearing
so my heart can soar like a dove
and you and I are free to love
