Fred Ain'T That Dumb
She had a mare -
The night was fair.
I rode a Bay
At end of day.
I said,"Let's ride.
You by my side.
The stars are out
To light our route."
The night was cool,
And like some fool,
I took no note
She had no coat.
With no warm clothes
I fear she froze,
And killed my plan
To be her man.
I fed her rum
To thaw her some
Til her eyes crossed -
Lord, she was sauced.
She could not ride -
She cursed my hide,
And as we walked -
The whole town talked.
They laughed at her,
She cursed a slur
Then went to sleep
In one big heap.
I hear she wed
A guy named Fred.
He ain't that dumb
To give her rum.
