Four Amish People

In front of Starbuck’s, on a bench,
Four Amish people sat,
The woman with a bonnet
And each man in a straw hat.

It’s not a sight you often see
On a local uptown street,
But in New York, you never know
What people you might meet.

That’s why I cherish living here,
For city folk embrace
All types of visitors who come
From every kind of place.

- People who live simply...not often seen outside their "society" I think (I've only seen them on TV) - hugs

As for me, the Midwest can keep the Amish. Give me NYC's 'heimische.' ~ gw

I wonder what entertainment they were attending. Perhaps a horse auction. The trip probably gave the women a break from cooking and cleaning.

How fascinating Ilene, i expect it was a treat for them to leave the confines of their community and travel. love the fact they were wearing their hats. i recall seeing a programme on TV about the Amish community:-) hugs Jan xx
