poetry inspired by wood engravings of clare leighton https://www.clareleighton.com/8654.htm
hills exposed
to no shade or
shelter
blunted by time
seasons of abrupt
movement
& appealing beauty
no sentimentality
no timidity
symmetry with shapes
everything starting
noticing time
with joy
our affection
delighting
in the intimate
at first silence
so dense
the gentle dawn
appears
to welcome
a sudden rush
of wealth
in a changed world
in bloom
bursting with blossom
flowering
a few hours of heat
everywhere
eyes are motionless
the challenge
of patience
begins
