Fortune and Fame

My heart, it clings to youthful dreams of fortune and of fame
But who am I, come on really, do you even know my name?

I have but dream with no know-how and seldom make the try
So will the people know my name before the day I die?

To make a mark I must compete not with others that so race
But must compete with myself to escape this comfort place.

I must enact a laid out plan and stay well to its course
If not to try, well that’s my choice, so must not feel remorse

If I succeed to do as dreamed, no failure would so be
For then I will have done my best at being just old me

And fame and fortune would fall away, important they are not
For I’d be rich in family and friends, that’s what means a lot.

the last line says it all, as long as we are rich in family and friends that is what really matters. dying alone would be the saddest thing of all. this was a great poem, really enjoyed reading it.
