Forgetting To Remember

For many, it's so very long from May until December. So never preface statements with, "My dear -don't you remember?" Blessed are those who don't forget who and what they are. Cursed are those who can't reflect and are lost somewhere -afar. And if you choose to query them they probably won't recall, The question you just asked them, Or -who you are -at all. Life's sweetest gift is memories that remind us who we are. Now locked away in some dark void a remote -and burned out star. And does a lost one contemplate with thoughts, nobody hears? Or is that other piece now gone and will never reappear? 'O pity loved ones left to grieve for someone still whose near. With sight they see- yet cannot reach, They're gone -but still, they're here. They sit and wait for just one sign, small sparks of recognition of whom that loved one used to be, now lost in dark perdition. That mind that once was filled with love Is gone - will never be the same. And those who love the lost one wait For only waiting can remain. Waiting-waiting for some flicker, That remembering is not done. Hope that loved one is not lost forever, Yet knowing -that damn disease has won.

Painful to read as I find my own "wits" slipping away. Everyone says :" It's normal to forget someone's name now and then as we age". But these are family and friends I've known for years. Oh well, such is life in the fast lane. As Forest Gumps mum said: Life is like a roll of toilet paper. Goes faster near the end. Thanks for sharing your insight with all of us on the soup. oldbuck
