Forget Me Not

There is no treasure large enough to buy a life
Even though life lasts as long as the sun beating on a cube of ice
To live and experience life is quite nice
Sometimes at night, I put my hand between my breasts
And feel my heart beating in my chest knowing that these channels called veins
Bringing life’s juices to my brain, heart, feet, and back again
My heart is like my best friend
We are of one accord
Don’t stop pumping right now I pray, Oh Lord
When it does and it will I will lie in my tomb so very still
Will I be remembered as a hero or villain?
Will my name remain a mystery?
Will I be recorded and ordained into history?
Will I be out of mind as soon as out of sight?
Will my memory go out like a candlelight?
To be just another tombstone in the ground is something I dread
To be forgotten in the past as soon as the dirt covers my head
I know there is someone whose life I’ve influenced
Out there, somewhere, someone will cry over my ruins
However, I have this mild interjection
Within every line, brings me closer to resurrection
These lullabies, lies, and cries will one day make me immortal
Never forget each life is important from the birth canal to death’s portal
