Forever Young

We have loved in vain,
Within our hearts past lovers do remain.
Through years of experience,
And the witnessing of our friends disappearance.
Through every year of growing maturity,
We sense the power of purity.
Like clay we are molding,
Love, patience, and respect...is that what we are holding?
Tiny worries about silly things are gone,
I have to admit those times were easy and fun.

But now its time to accept responsibility,
Time to challenge people's reliability.
We have received the best of wishes,
And now we are in a large pond and we are little fishes.

Hopefully its come to everyones attention,
That's life won't be easy.
It will punch us in the stomach,
And leave us with nothing.
We are finally on our own,
The prayers of our loved ones are resting in our bones.
We will be forever young,
Our journey has only just begun.

This poem has a strange sense of moving on, but also a devotion to the love connectivity between two familiar hearts Ettie. Oddly, and with tingly wonder I also am drawn to a contemplation of rebirth, akin to reincarnation. Although I don't not believe in, loving in vain, I like your poem's genuine reflective and nostalgic vibe, and there is breath remaing in Love in the final line. This write tells me something special Ettie...J.A.B.
