Forever Only Friends

Sand fading away,
memories in a hourglass.
Our velvet roses,
passed away too fast.
Beauty once retained,
never meant to last.
Our love scattered,
ashes to ash.

Sun once raised,
the question never asked.
An obvious answer,
both hearts knew that.
Everything done right,
no one to blame.
Beds cold alone,
at the end of the day.

Wishes always denied,
prayers never truly heard.
Finally letting go,
of our guilt, pain, and hurt.
Spirits roam free,
releasing separated anxious birds.
Crossroads differently spared
another seed convicted in dirt.

Our tainted urges,
buried so far underneath.
Lustful wreaths broken,
dreams handed down bequeathed.
Trapped never again,
meant to be this way.
two different souls,
always forever only friends today.
