Forever

So many reasons run through her head,
Too many doubts linger,
But love still fights her demons within,
Weakened
Battered
Shattered
He knows to let her cry,
He knows he should try,
With painful tears she beats his defiant chest,
Until she runs out of zest,
And upon the floor of their broken home she falls,
Slouched under,
Surrendered,
Beaten,
He knows he should help her up,
Her pain he wants to stop,
She moans her begging plea,
She chokes helplessly upon her knees,
He stands tall,
Withdrawn,
Expressionless,
Shameless,
A shadow of a man leaves through the open door,
A glimpse of a woman broken on the floor,
With no more stories to tell,
Just an empty shell,
One day?
Someday?
Never.
He promised her forever that never came.
