Forbiden Love

Forbiden Love I impose quarantine! On what is rightfully mine, If the elders don’t mind, And choose to be enough kind, As to put the past aside, Then, I’ve nothing to hide. Purity, I believe, Is hard to achieve, Your wisdom I perceive, And reprimands I receive, But again if she leaves, I will be the bereaved. Mine is the fear, Hers are bitter tears, Yours is purity, Mine is unity, With all due respect, I choose to defect. She is My Queen, Wasn’t easy to win, She is your kin, Yet it pricks like a pin, Makes you grab your chin, As though love is sin. You may despise and curse, Regard me an outcast, “But what God has put together, Let no man put asunder” Based on Ngugi wa Thiong'os book, The River Between.
