For You

Do you ever come here?
Do you ever stop by?
Will I catch you reading the
words
I wrote to "that special guy"?
You were him
Even before there was a
possibility
Crush flame smoldered
And two years later we became
"we"
But it was a tease
You wouldn't last
I should have known the
keeper I caught
Wouldn't be my final cast
They had no idea
"Other fish", they said
The love I had held for you for
so long
Still is not dead
Reaching out through the
darkness
Words left unspoken
I wondered if you would open
up
But the bond is clearly broken
I wonder if you meant for this
To happen just this way
You led me on it seems
And yet I'm more than happy
to stay
Caught up in the what-ifs
My heart in pain for you
I read your struggles in your
voice
And wonder if you hear mine,
too
