For You

To push the expectant door And enter an empty house To hail someone met before Met stranger friend nor spouse So it is at evening now And coming home When the farmer leaves his plough And feelings roam Then it was when he looked up And lying leaves teased hunger too The first taste of bitter cup Barrren tree and fruit long due What meaning to know for life Or sacrifice For church and blind errant wife Let love suffice Love is where we wont to go The quiet friend, a fireside A heart that with warmness glow A friend who serves without pride I came to give, to find you Waiting to share The blood drops my heart yields you But vacant here. Was it so at the tomb then Did not she some reward gain In an untransfigured friend For love requite is not vain And hope soars where there is faith My love be mine We too must rise and though late Clasp joy divine.
