For the Love of a Poem

I approach a poem
Just like a lover
I start on one end
And work my way to the other

Until each portion
That lies in between
Has been lovingly touched
Been felt and been seen

And with each touch
Smoothing out the lines
Improving the flow
Adjusting the rhymes

Until at last I reach
The poem's other side
Then I take it for
Its first test ride
