For My Friend

You entered my life
Like a soft gentle rain
There was no agenda
You had nothing to gain

You made me feel liked
Even valued at times
You were simply my friend
In spite of my crimes

We flirted and teased each other
Throughout some of the days
Sometimes we just chatted
When we had nothing to say

I cherish the way you’ve trusted me
With the secrets that you’ve shared
About your wants and needs
About for whom you’ve cared

I know it wasn’t easy
Letting go of my past
You could have walked away
Left me standing as an outcast

For this I am grateful
And always will be
You gave the greatest gift
You liked me, for me
