For Just a Little While
You say I'll never own your heart,
And so, to me, it seems
I'll never find the peace of mind
I know in all my dreams.
If I can never know your love,
I'll settle for a smile.
At least, I'll know I crossed your mind
For just a little while.
For just a little while
Let me hold you close to me.
I won't pretend it's any more
Than you will let it be.
I have to let you know
I want to make you smile --
I'll be around, if you fall down,
For just a little while.
You may not want me here at all --
And, if that is your choice --
I'll say good-bye, with a quiet sigh
And a teardrop in my voice.
If I must go, then help me live --
Just let me see you smile.
I'll know I saw eternity
For just a little while.
