For James Fraser On His Birthday
When creation opened her arms you were there,
From the beginning we two at the making of the tear,
The leaving of the womb, but I shall not decline the joy of birth,
I come to your celebration, light swaddled, seeding the earth
Sunrise blew out the candle of the stars, lit the sea gold
And turn the heart to bird wings in the cage of our soul
I know your are dancing to the same beat as I
The light dances too upon the canvas of your eye
And I dance, breaking the chains of space and time
And the earth sings on, piping your birth and love sublime.
