For Diane
For Diane
You are young and so alive
I am old but the fire's still alive
We come from places far apart
And still we connected at the heart
I have fought the fight you face
it takes place in a frightening place
Your troubles lie within your past
and time moves ever so fast
Slow down time and remember who you really are
you're not the person they say you are
Not the one who's lost control
or the one who will never be whole
you are a person with a loving soul
Life is gift most take for granted
it's true your past life can't be recanted
It happened as you remember it
all the pain and all the ****
but you can stop living in it
You can go on now just by learning
how to forgive and live a life
not free of trouble or free of strife or yearning
but ever still a rewarding life.
Know that you can do it
I will help if you ask and get right to it.
But for now I love you
and pray for your recovery
and I know you can do it
As I fought and so far have won
you can do so as well
and free yourself from your living hell
Long after I have passed and left this place
I will have left remembering your smiling face
It is the joy of my life to know you will go on
that smile tells me we have won
a temporary victory it will always be
as you will learn and I truly believe - one day at time is the key.
I love you and I know you love me.
