For Better Or For Worse
By Elton Camp
All others Meg agreed to forsake
What was good or bad she’d take
Joe, likewise, the same words said
As the minister the ceremony read
For a while all ran smoothly enough
It changed when the going got tough
Meg had two babies, then two more
His existence Joe began to abhor
“About money, you don’t begin.
Just manage on what I bring in.”
“I’ll play with the kids if I want to,
However, that’s all that I intend to do.”
“Don’t expect me to clean or cook.
But take more pride in how you look.”
“If the boss expects too much of me,
I’ll quit this one too, wait and see.”
“All you do is gripe and complain.
Why, in this house, do I remain!”
For Meg, the “better” had gone away.
Leaving only “worse” day after day.
