For a Love Lost

FOR A LOVE LOST
That agonizing of the heart
is not in letting go,
but what was never plain to me
and what I'll never know.
These sleepless nights are what I wish
you'll have, along with me,
and never know a minute's peace,
as long as time shall be.
My wish is you will never know
a love that is complete,
but go from one love to the next,
not winning, but defeat.
My hope for you is not in love,
but love's catastrophe,
the very same that I will know,
the rest of life for me;
I want your life to be a mess,
and know the truth of it,
love is not gentle nor a friend,
but pieces that won't fit.
I pray each night each dream will show
love is not so divine,
and sleepless, you will come to know,
Your love is just like mine.
