For a Little While

For a Little While… A hammer, a chisel, and a tablet made of stone All I’ll ever need when I find myself alone It makes more sense that I would finally set you free I’ve held you back for too long Don’t tell me you can’t see A world awaits you; take a step into the light No one to hold your hand But only for a little while… I see a picture forming of you in my mind A crystal clear depiction telling me that you’ll be fine What of me you ask? What will become of me? I’ll fade on the horizon just as you’ve realized you’re free Perhaps we’ll meet again, if only for a little while Nothing more than friends again With nothing to reconcile; If only for a little while… A hammer, a chisel, and a tablet made of stone All I’ll ever need to keep from being alone I feel it deep inside, like the turning of a screw I’m so wound up, uptight, and I don’t know what to do I know the world awaits you So take a step into the light No one to hold your hand But only for a little while… The picture I see of you is forming in my mind A crystal clear depiction Telling me that you’ll be fine What of me you ask? What will become of me? I would fade on the horizon just as you’ve realized…you’re free Even, if only for a little while…
