Folly and Fright of the Fireworks Display
dogs cower, as craven yellow stars
circle like collars above their heads
fishermen delight in the blue sea air:
spectacular jellyfish, tentacles dangling
a big kettle of popcorn symbolically popping
revolutionary “shots heard round the world”
one wish wands, sparkle in fairies’ hands
like sand in an hourglass, embers tick tock
rockets move the night air in concentric circles.
playful children, eyes ignited, break out in raucous laughter
