Follow Me
Follow me, for a minute
Try to feel me, for a few
Right now, I need you
To see the world through
My view
So check your vision
Take a look at the television
And tell me
Is that a pretty picture
We hurt ourselves
Because we hate ourselves
Never given the capacity to love
We can’t tame ourselves
So then we shame ourselves
Trying to be
Crooks and thugs
Then we shrug
And ask “where is the love”
Where is it
It was never given
You can’t tell,
If it ever existed
So we turn on each other
For economic gain
And every opportunity
To expand our names
When people need food
Children need water
Mothers left alone
When babies need fathers
While others
Sit on what they have
Teens and young adults
Shot and stab
For money
And hood supremacy
Then everybody is dying
Everyday
People of every age
From cancer, HIV and AIDS
What do you say
Why don’t you raise
Your awareness
Because you can’t look me in the eye
And say you are satisfied
Nor should you be
Not if you see what I see
It’s not all bad
But we don’t sit back
Until it comes to be
A world filled
With pain and misery
That is not what’s good
But it is what’s real
If only we could feel
Compassion
Add,
And develop the capacity
To love
For the sake
Of our welfare
To save ourselves
From
Ourselves
Instead of sitting back
With unconcerned eyes
And watch the demise
Of our lives
Let us press for one mission
With one vision
To bridge,
The divide
Unite
