Fly Away

Is that you knocking? The door is open. Come on in, the lights are on. Sit on down, pour us some coffee. I'll be right there. I'm glad you're home.
It's good to see you. So much has happened. How you been out on your own? I've been lonely, thinking about you, haven't slept much since you've been gone.
Haunting memories kept me company every night that you weren't here. The tears I've cried, could've filled the bottles, I've emptied, drinking beer.
Please don't go. You just got here. You know I'd be so glad if you would stay. I always knew I couldn't keep you. Angel, spread your wings and fly away.

Congratulations Kevin for your honorable mention placement in the contest. There were so many fine poems entered. The last lines brought tears, I thought this truly sad. Bravo.
