Flower of Christmas

mint green Christmas and
star shaped poinsettias point
at the golden hour

red plant revelry
and hoot owl's quiet in snow
mauve sun is setting

pretty centerpiece
where loved ones gather laughing
joy of the season

the scarecrow leaning
calls to mind the songbird days
in burgundy hat

celebrating Him
and jack frost is at the door
flower of christmas

Honestly, it's the first time I've ever been attracted to the foliage and ornamentation of the holiday. (As you probably realize, I'm Jewish and do not celebrate Christmas -- although in 2012 I Christmas Carols at Loyola University of Chicago to Muslims from Saudi Arabia before. Imagine!). I am aware that you are Jewish, and I once read somewhere that religion begins with respecting the religious views of those of other faiths, so I think it's wonderful that you sang Christmas carols for Muslims from Saudi Arabia.
