Flattery's Sweet Sway

As time blemishes your youthful skin, wrinkles appear, and crowfeet begin. And your fragile ego fuels fears lamenting the ravages of the years. Wooing dreams of perpetual youth, you despise the grim mirror of truth. And as tears fall from your eyes in drips, they taste bitter upon aging lips. Addicted to flattery's sweet sway, you use makeup to brush time away. And thrive under that coating of lies, contorting truth till its value dies. Mascara completes the fantasy, eyes blinded by conceit can not see. And while you're pretending all is good, fear hides a tear; time's misunderstood. Stepping into the light from the dark, you pay the price as tears leave their mark. And although you disguise how you feel, reality reflects what is real. (Rhyme) 4/21/2017

Every woman can relate to the oncoming of wrinkles and aging. Some don't take it too well at all. Well done, Emile.

I had to laugh at the image you put on Emile. We were only watching a show last night and shaking our heads at the appalling lengths these women had gone to (not to mention the expense) to appear 'beautiful', in the long run causing huge dangers to health. In the organic industry that we're in we are forever trying to make people more aware of the HUGE amount of chemicals that are in so called anti-ageing skincare. Some, we get to. A brilliant poem of yours as usual, sad too. A7++

Thanks Maria, aging is a shared experience we all go through, some more grudgingly than most. I appreciate your taking the time to give me this wonderful review, Emile.

Getting old is hard for anyone to face, having character allows one to do so gracefully! Beautiful poem!

Thanks Arthur, they say grace comes with age...and that seems to be true for most people, Emile.

It really is a shame that people just can't be happy with who they are appearance wise, we all get old and there is nothing we can do about that, at least not yet. Nicely expressed Emile.

Thanks Chris, getting old means getting closer to dying, and the end of life scares many who count the years, Emile.
