Fitting the Crime

The governor’s accusers
Say he acted in a way
That made them cringe and naturally,
He has to somehow pay.

All three of them reported
Language seeming to suggest
A kiss or maybe more would be
Enjoyed at his behest.

He touched one on her back, connecting
With her skin exposed,
Which made her most uncomfortable,
She recently disclosed.

Demands for Cuomo to step down
To me seem out of whack,
Especially when we’ve heard boasts
Of grabs below the back.

Behavior should be judged, of course,
Apologies deserved,
But resignation shouldn’t stem
From three who’ve been unnerved.

The governor should learn from this
And watch the way he acts,
While those so quick to punish him
Should follow just the facts.

Carolyn's logic is right on. Clinton did far worse in the oval office. / Maurice

Who knew New York women were so thin-skinned? Carolyn's right on the money, i.e., Trump calling the kettle black! Aloha! Rico

I can understand, because you are a kind, gentle, forgiving person. I don't know the facts, but I did find good poetry here. I think all people in public service must be extremely careful in all of their contacts with the opposite sex. Now, I think I understand why Pence would not be alone in a room with women other than his wife! Good work.

A forthright and thoughtful opinion piece, Ilene, and one with which I wholeheartedly agree.....indeed, yes, let the punishment fit the crime. And your poem was just the right vehicle, with just the right words, intention, and (hopefully) impact. Thanks!

These are like the cherry on top of the sundae of the nursing home death numbers which he deliberately covered up. It will be interesting to see if the mob calls for his hide when the 'official report' is issued on the cover-up. If I were Cuomo, I'd get out now, while the gettin's good... He should take a cue from Michael Madigastan, as I call him, who dodged a bribery investigation in Illinois, resigning last month after 50 (!) years atop the legislature in the State of IL. Cheers, Gershon

After the accusations levied against our last president, the allegations against Cuomo seem mild. It is not appropriate to make an employee feel embarrassed this way, but if Trump can stay in office, why do we judge Cuomo more harshly? My family just hated hearing about all this. We like him and thought he might run for president. Hugs, Carolyn

All though I feel there should be a full and complete investigation, I always have this feeling: do we really ever know all the facts???? Cuomo was gaining in such popularity...do some people want to bring him down? And what better way than accusations of sexual impropriety.
