First Things Last

The rain pours down so you find yourself some shelter,
Safely tucked away behind your favorite sweater.
You ask is all okay, knowing that things could be much better.
She only opens up a smile while your left to face the weather.

First you've got to think, and then you've got ask
Yourself, how many straws can you count before you slip and break your back.

Yeah we know, we know, it's all for the cause,
But is it really worth when you leave with broken balls.
And yeah we know, we know, it's all in the job,
But will you ever get your chance at turning the knob?

It's because you're friends, it's because you care,
That you push on through with all the pulling of your hair.
It's because your loving that you save from her the mud.
Only to turn the corner and find her bathing in your blood.

The violets stay blue and roses always red,
But some how the beauty always winds up dead,
And the moments never end up like I wrote them in head.

Now you've got to ask, and then you've got to act
'Cause time only stands still when you're running from your past.

Yeah we know, we know, it's all for the cause,
But is it really worth when you leave with broken balls.
And yeah we know, we know, it's all in the job,
But will you ever get your chance at turning the knob?

Yeah I know, I know, you're just hopeless romantic,
Now push it all down and only let it out in a drunken panic.
And yeah I know, I know, you're sure in what you're pursuing,
Just don't let your disappointment leaves your hopes in ruin.

A word to the wise is just an opinion to the stupid.
There's no such thing as bad advice, advice depends on how you use it.
