First Book

I gave a book to my glad child;
She looked on it and smiled,
And with her tender years of two
Turned the pages two by ten.

She saw a picture of some men
And with her fingers light and small
She gently touched them one and all.
Then very grave she looked me through
And stood, and reached, and touched me, too.
