Fire Burn
The fire burns
hot rising flames
hidden from the raging winds;
the fires burn
hot then cold
ember glow in shivered skin;
out of time
the warmth pervades
stick, rock and stone;
the roaring blaze
slowly succumbs
as its fuel is consumed;
charcoal remnants
begin a slowing smolder
immolation to winter sacrifice;
the inevitable silence
crackling loud then lost
in the fire burn.
