Fifty Toes a Wiggling

Tanned by the summer sun Laughing because life is young Five boys just want to play During the summer holiday Race your bikes through the park Avoiding the junkyard dogs' bark Chasing fireflies in the dark Vacation is best when it starts Swimming at the local pool Make that pose looking cool The girls would laugh and look away Dive in the pool splash and play See all the movies that they made Everyday is a matinee Play a little ball show your skill Hope the girls notice your kill Grill that meat eat outside Now this is summer alive When the day gets too hot Slurping slurpees you bought Throw the frisbee with the dogs At the creek catching frogs Some days just lie around This is how summer is found Hanging on the monkey bars Daring to see just how far You can hold and not let go Everyone laughs as I wiggle my toes Fifty toes a wiggling Five friends a giggling Summers are swell With friends you are real Johnny was the first to move Then Tommy left it hurt our groove Derrick found a girl he craved Paul just lost his way Those four summers with us five Where the best of being alive Childhood friends as thick is blood So goofy we ate mud Through the years I look back Regretting that we lost track Wondering what became of them My childhood summer friends Yet I smile with a laughing heart From memories that never depart Inside my soul I giggle Tired arms jiggle So my toes I wiggle Tommy laughs and falls Johnny next then Paul Derrick strong with one hand tickles me I fall laughing and relieve Derrick seem to always win Never could get the best of him We pal around Monkey bar clowns Fifty toes a wiggling Five friends a giggling I wish I could go back again Hanging out with my summer friends Chasing the stars we could fly I never could say good bye.
